I have a feeling they will play.

Re: Voodoo Music Experience

I'd like to see Primus get together for Voodoo. Black Keys, Justice, Jane's Addiction, Widespread Panic, and The Flaming Lips were my highlights.

The 2010 lineup should IMO go wierder and a bit younger. I would love a few more DJ Sets like Diplo, Deadmau5, MSTRKRFT, etc in lieu of how BADASS Justice was. Also, some more trippy, upbeat stuff like LCD Soundsystem, Pretty Lights, STS9, Perpertual Groove, Thievery Corp, MGMT etc would be cool.

Since it is Halloween, GWAR and Slipknot would be cool, and if Mudvayne would start painting up again they would be neat as well.

Gorillaz, Daft Punk, and The Prodigy are a must for me. That would be unreal.

The only other personal preference for me would to have more bands that give the 'festival' vibe. Maybe Vampire Weekend, The Virgins, or Ghosland Observatory.

All wishful thinking though...had a great time.

Re: Voodoo Music Experience

this prob. won't happen but the headliners should be: Daft Punk, Radiohead, Gorillaz...all would blend for a great halloween weekend. Radiohead might be touring by then because of 'possibly' a finished record. Something Coachellesque would drive ticket sales way beyond previous years. like when rage headlined in '07.

Re: Voodoo Music Experience

DAFT PUNK VOODOO 2010!!!

Re: Voodoo Music Experience

first of all ALL TIME LOW was AMAZING! Black Keys were very memorable in the pouring rain, Silversun Pickups kinda melted my brain, Ween was awesome and did a bunch of my favorite songs, Squirrel Nuts were cool, Bingo Show was great, Rebirth Brass Band was -religious-, only caught a bit of Wolfmother but it was Joker and the Thief, cool, Jane's Addiction was THE band to see and I feel bad if you missed them, was great to see KISS for the first time, Flaming Lips were fun, and Kravitz was Kravitz. But I think I spent most of the fest meandering drunkenly around having a good old time. I'll go again and I bet it can only get better (but I hope they get Jane's back, heh).

Re: Voodoo Music Experience

GALACTIC LATE NIGHT AT TIPS ON FRIDAY WAS INSANELY AWSOME!

galactic played til bout 330-4am....after party was at some small bar (I forget the name) somethin like Le Bon Torment or somethin... This has been problematic all 3 years I've been and while it'll prolly never be perfect it has a long way to go to even get to acceptable levels.

- A better undercard on the main stages

- A better handle on the delayed side stages

- A cola sponsor

- bring back the little attractions (the Mantis Man, the floating balloon light things). they weren't anything special necessarily but a couple of them were kinda neat

- the LOA looked like it was improved tenfold. improve on that from last year and I may actually have to save a little extra $ to drop on it

- A lineup that doesn't have acts dropping off left and right

- Bands that show up in condition to play (as I stated, I didn't see it but if The Pogues set was truly as abysmal as was described to me they shouldn't be touched again by this, or any other, festival until they get their shit straightened up. Irish punk or not - you can't dick over your customers/fans like that)

- A plan in place just in case it rains. There were sizeable chunks of land that were a chore to attempt to navigate.

- Keep that security team and staff in place too. Some of the nicest people I've ever met that from everything I could tell did one helluva job all weekend long. Kudos to them.

- 2 words : Daft Punk.

The gripes I had were relatively minor - nothing really soured my experience at all and I enjoyed myself entirely. But those are my thoughts on what could be done to spice up what Rehage has going here.

Re: Voodoo Music Experience

and explosions in the sky

Re: Voodoo Music Experience

well if they did lose money, it would definitely be due to the lineup. look at lollapalooza, coachella, austin city limits. those fests sell out every year it seems like. voodoo needs more contemporary bands that stand apart. here's a list of bands that need to play the fest sometime soon: muse, radiohead/thom yorke, them crooked vultures, diplo, the dead weather, mike relm, the roots, sts9, santigold, beck, beastie boys, animal collective, mgmt, yeasayer, any damon albarn group, girl talk, lcd soundsystem, modest mouse, pearl jam, yea yea yeas, arcade fire, DAFT PUNK!!! , grizzly bear, bloc party, mf doom, simian mobile disco, pixies again, kings of leon, metallica, slipknot, tool, gwar, dr john and galactic please!!!, booka shade, cat power, kanye west, the decemberists, snoop dogg, cage the elephant, the prodigy, ben folds. not all those bands i like, but those bands will sell tickets. if voodoo can get a majority of these acts over the next couple of years, the festival would probably sell out. it would bring the coachella lollapalooza type of money. at least a couple of headliners i mentioned, with some of the mid tier acts i mentioned. here's hoping its not somebody like kiss next year

Re: Voodoo Music Experience

Jane's Addiction delivers.

Re: Voodoo Music Experience

Yeah, I as well would not have gone had I not bought my hotel and tickets in the march-ish time. The line up next year could have DEFINITELY USED A BOOST. What happened to Buckcherry? And why was Down in a small tent? Went to see Down and couldn't even get in the tent. Janelle Monae was a suprize favorite and Fischerspooner didn't dissapoint. I wanted Kiss to be better. I think they lost TONS of money on this festival, it seemed like there wasn't many people there.. It annoyed the PISS out of me how all the small stages ran late and the big ones stayed remotely on time. It was near impossible to see people that way, I wanted to see Jello, but he started so late that I could only watch 2 songs before my group dragged my over to see Kiss, I had this issue a handfull of times.
The soft drink thing was UBER ANNOYING, a girl at one of the booths said there was a dispute between pepsi and the promotors so they just decided not to have pepsi at all. STUPID STUPID STUPID. I held my pee for 8 hours so I didn't have to walk through the sanitation mud-pit. At bonnaroo these things were cleaned out regularly, I don't see why this didn't happen @ voodoo....
This was my first voodoo experience, and unless the lineup shapes up it will be my last.

Re: Voodoo Music Experience

I had a good enough time. Better than I expected I would have. Ledisi, Bingo Show, Justice, All Time Low, Down, Zydepunks, Flaming Lips, Fischerspooner, The Vettes, SNZippers all brought their A-game. KISS & Eminem I didn't watch all of but what I did see I was not disappointed in. Didn't bother w/ Kravitz - he wasn't gonna top the Lips - no way, no how. Brand New did suck which was terribly disappointing to me - after being shockingly entertained by the kiddie pop-punk of All Time Low they did really suck the life out of the area. I anticipated them highly and found myself disgustingly bored after about 4 songs and left.

I was watching Fleur De Tease at the time but heard from several people that The Pogues set was a disaster both in the crowd and on stage. Part of me says "Well, it's The Pogues what do you expect" but at the same time somebody seriously needs to get Shane McGowan some help or he just needs to go away and let bands legacy stand as it is because from what I heard it sounds like their just standing around pissing on themselves at this point.

The food was quite good - as usual. I also was shocked at the lack of a soft drink at the festival. Nothing wrong with the water/energy drink/lemonade/beer/SoCo options but the lack of a cola was puzzling. The restroom situation continues to be problematic. The crowd was sorta stale at times at the larger stages but the Bingo Parlor acts never seemed to have a problem connecting.

All-in-all I give this years Voodoo a nice 'B' grade. Room for improvement? Definitely. But I wasn't disappointed by any means.

Out of curiosity - who no-showed? I assume K'Naan is one because I saw his FYE signing was cancelled.

MSTRKRFT cancelling at like 11pm or whatever at Ampersand on Thursday was really weak shit - but I did get an e-mail stating I'd be getting a full refund for that which is a nice surprise because I still had a good time there. Props to Force Feed Radio for covering very well in a shitty situation.

Re: Voodoo Music Experience

*your

Re: Voodoo Music Experience

@TomServo

So, you're kid can't drink water and you brought your kid to an adult music festival without researching the content of the songs being performed by individual acts and that's somehow Voodoo's problem?

This is essentially an adult festival that provided activities for the children. Your kid wasn't meant to be at every performance. This'd be like me taking my kid to Seasame Street on Ice and complaining about the lack of consideration for adults.

Re: Voodoo Music Experience

I only went friday. the crowd was great for black keys, silversun pickups, and unreal for justice. justice had an amazing energy. check the highlights on voodoo. a party. its probably because younger kids dont know the headliners that well, and arent that impressed with them. Idk, i 2nd that notion jonathan. i was thinking that because radiohead is recording a new album next year, and muse will be touring in america next year. maybe we can get one, i cant imagine both those bands. not even lollapalooza or coachella could prob. have those both.

Re: Voodoo Music Experience

BIG letdown after last year. The good - we loved Janelle Monae, Jane's, Fischerspooner, and Flaming Lips... all delivered more than expected. SSPU, Wolfmother, KISS, Lenny Kravitz, and Squirrel Nut Zippers all delivered exactly what we expected. The food was pretty decent, and most of the local acts were entertaining. Some of the giveaways were cool.

The Bad - The Kid's stage (Vooboo) was uber-lame compared to Kidzapalooza. The lack of a soft drink partner was ASININE. Completely ridiculous - the only soda in the park was either a mixed drink or a root beer float. Brand New was horrendous - they just stood there and mumbled... sucked the life out of the show. Then, The Pogues followed it up with a late lead singer (who sounded awful) and a band argument that should stay offstage. Some of the acts should be branded as *adult* in nature at any show with free kid's admission - I was entertained by Bones, but acknowledging the kids in the audience before songs about penis size, sex with underage girls, and drugs... a little tacky. It'd be nice to know in advance if the content would be that extreme.

More bad - what fool decided to put the port-a-potties on a downward slant? They turned into mudpits and stayed that way all weekend long. A couple bands didn't show, and Squirrel Nut Zippers' two leads skipped the autograph signing (lame!), which was scheduled during the Flaming Lips - miss the awesome Lips opening to meet one original band member (the bassist) and a bunch of new guys? I don't know about that. The signings sucked anyhow - most had tiny lines and you had to buy FYE merchandise. I expected that - but when only 5-6 folks are waiting for autographs, let the people who already spent their bankroll say hello, you know? Also - whoever decided to give Flaming Lips only 1:20 needs to have their head examined. Their show was great, and felt short. With Lenny on early, why not let Lips kick it longer?

A final bad note - the fans sucked. Almost every major headliner begged the crowd to wake up and make some noise (KISS, Lenny, Lips, some others) while only Jane's had a full crowd that seemed completely engaged from the start... a big change from last year, when the crowd was nuts for NIN and REM.

I think this is my last Voodoo. Love the city, love the culture, hated the lack of a soda or other major drink partner... the terrible muddy bathrooms (and what was with tie-wrapping the portajohns when they ran out of TP?).... felt like a first time event, not something that competes with Lollapalooza, Coachella, etc.

Re: Voodoo Music Experience

I think as a whole this year was better than last, but i'm a big Nine Inch Nails fan so last year's saturday was great. Also it didnt rain last year. Jane's Addiction on Saturday was the best show there. They just blew me away. The Flaming Lips played the second best show of the festival, and it was probably the most fun show ever. RADIOHEAD AND MUSE FOR VOODOO FEST 2010!!!

Re: Voodoo Music Experience

Well, overall it was a good year. Black Key, Silversun Pickups, Justice, Eminem, Mute Math and Wolfmother all tore it up. We payed 336 for LOA tickets and we think it was worth it. $100 a day is not bad at all when you get to see more than three good bands. The rain sucked Friday night but it happens. Glad we had our rain suites and boots. Needed them all day Saturday.
Here is a side note of amazement....At 4:00pm on Saturday we went out to the car to change into our Halloween costumes. We came back into the park had a great time but left right before KISS because, well, some KISS fans where rude and stunk to high hell. Anyways, we get back to the car and the passenger side door was wide open. That sinking feeling hit and then I realized that my wife left her purse in there and I had taken my DL and credit cards out to put in my pocket but left the rest of the wallet in the car also. Get to the car and find nothing missing what so ever! My wife had not closed her door when we left to go back in at 4pm. So, our passenger side door was WIDE open from 4pm to 9pm in the LOA parking lot and not a thing happened. We where very lucky!
We talked about it on the way home and decieded that next year we will wait to see who all is in the line-up before making the purchase of tickets. We would not have come this year with this line up. Buying early is a good deal but next year has to have a stronger line up. I think most agree this year's line up compared to last is, well, no comparison.
By the way, in the LOA we where told there was going to be 3 for 1 drink specials. Got there and it is only from 4pm to 6pm. Not cool. Also, one bathroom for LOA is stupid.
LOA is worth it but improvement are always needed.
Hope to go next year. It would make 3 years in a row if we did.

Re: Voodoo Music Experience

thanks for the info on girl talk. i missed when he played at the thirsty hippo. hopefully, i'll make it to this.

Re: Voodoo Music Experience

Anonymous,

Here's the article that confirms it. plus i have heard from a few people it's true.
