I agree that 311's setlist was predictable last night, as it has been all tour. This is in large part due to the band trying to convert casual fans who came because of the bill (Snoop/311). The band's spring tour was a lot more varied. Still, it was nice to see "Stealing Happy Hours."

    Snoop's set lasted an hour.

Most people who were there went for 311, not Snoop Dogg. And I don't think anything about that set would have converted even the most casual of fans.

I saw 311 a few nights before in Mansfield, MA on the 18th. This was my third time seeing them in as many years, and I thought they sounded the best yet. You are right, they do sort of go through to motions, but you have to appreciate the fact that the entire band goes crazy and still gets pumped up for each night. I noticed that this was the most energetic I had ever seen the band, and I was impressed at how into it the crowd was.

This summer I was able to hear Frolic Room, from DTOM, which they never play live, so that was a nice surprise. I think 311's next album will be a big step in the right direction and will win back alot of their fans from the past. I will always love seeing 311 live!

    Alex,
I agree that most fans were there for 311; however, a lot more casual fans seemed to show up than the regulars - at least in the pit. Usually, you can look around and see most of the pit singing along to non-radio hits like "From Chaos" or "Taiyed." That wasn't the case this time (for the first time in years). Everyone around me seemed thrilled only when they'd play a hit. And why can't a greatest hits setlist full of the same energy the regulars are used to convert a casual fan? It's not like the casual fans know that the drum solo in "Applied Science" will be the exact same every time.

I always felt that 311 was for the people who wanted a dose of the same old. 311 will reliably deliver that 311-ness. I would be very surprised if they ever delivered something else.

This was my third time seeing 311. Yes they play some predictable songs - but seeing them play stealing happy hours as well as getting both feel so good and fuck the bullshit was great. 311 consistently puts on a great high energy show that is fun to go to. I will see them every time they come to the DC area.

Eventually I have faded away of their shows because of predictable sets. After few times of enjoyments, I could say, oh those drumlines were same as last year. Same move same tones which you really need to intoxicate to not notice. They are party band after all.
