Consequence of Sound: Festival Outlook

  • Andrew · 1 year ago
It's been great having this one site to go for all festival news, but I'm BUMMED about your new festival page(s) format. On your old format, I loved being able to see all bands for all festivals listed on one page, so I could easily see/search favorite bands to find out what festivals they'll be playing, and easily compare lineups of different festivals. Now I have to click separately on all these dozens of festival links to see who is playing there....boo!

I know the old page was long, but I sure didn't mind. Could you please still offer one consolidated festivals/lineups page as before? That could be in addition to the new separate pages per festival, where people can go for more info on each festival.

Thanks for considering, and in any event, please keep up the great festival info!
  • Eric Catmull · 1 year ago
Oh my! Nice and spiffy! Moving in the right direction! Things are alittle broken... Some links do not work. First 3 festivals didnt work. Alex, nice step up. Recomendation: reduce font size!
  • Captain Asshole · 1 year ago
Yeah man, I like what you've done. But not to be an asshole or anything, but this fucking font is maaaahhhhssssiiiiiive bra. It's kind of blowing up my spot at work.
  • James · 1 year ago
Really Liking it. This will make it so much easier to literally cover ever festival... EVER. haha. Good job.
  • Alex Young · 1 year ago
    Hey guys,

I'll try to add a full page once everything is fixed in terms of hosting and servers.

    Thanks for the comments!
  • Eric Catmull · 1 year ago
Alright Alex! We have ignition and Liftoff! The site looks great now that your server company fixed latency. I think that might have been the Font issue, but whatever it was... It's good news now. Really Really stoked you threw Vegoose on the lookout. Do you know if it may escalate to a 3 day fest? I sure hope so! Last year was so much fun!

And to all those people out there who are wondering if it is worth a trip out to Vegas... you can BET it is! Here's pics and a blog from Last year's show. I'm the guy dressed as a Beer Keg. And if you plan on coming to the show, costumes are a MUST!!

Add Osheaga to the Canadian list. Gogol Bordello's website claims that they are playing it on August 4th which is a Monday. Guess it is going Aug 2 through 4 this year?
  • David · 1 year ago
Can't really say I'm pleased with the new changes, although i think some of the things are bugs. Like for some reason each page starts with this massive blank space that i ahve to scroll through, and the font size is SO INCREDIBLY HUGE! not good.

I liked this site because it was very easy to just stop by for a minute and quickly glance over things and check out the new news. Now with all the weird spacing issues and the font being insanely huge, that's not really possible. I'm hoping that things will get fixed because instead of making things more organized, they now look much less organized.
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
I agree with Charile, add Osheaga. But I doubt it will be August 2-4 this year. It has always been 2 days, not 3.
  • Rosalitasmom · 1 year ago
I think the page view problems are only on Windows IE...looks fine on mac/safari. They'll get it worked out. :)
  • matt melis · 1 year ago
    Hey folks,

Thanks for the comments. As another poster mentioned, the problems seem to exist when viewing the site using internet explorer. Other browsers seem to work fine for viewing the site. I've been using Firefox, which can be downloaded for free and only takes a minute or two to set up. Here's a link:

    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

Thanks for reading and hopefully you're able to view the site at its best. The bosses have it looking really sharp.

    take care,
    matt

Hey, as a side note, good call on posting that review about the band Magic Magic last week. Those dude's are sick! I've seen them around the Boston area a bunch of times over the past year and they absolutely rip it.

If any of you missed the article, check it oooouuuut and check out their MySpeezy page...

See, I'm not always an asshole.
  • hey bob · 1 year ago
nice job on the new look
the front page looks ALOT better
the layout for the festival page is better.....i wont say its the best, but better.
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
Hey, glad to see you add Osheaga, but it is not in September this year. Gogol Bordello has confirmed they will be there on August 4.
  • David · 1 year ago
Sweet you guys fixed the site so that it works for internet explorer! Mad props to you guys and now I'm digging the new look.

(Copied question from the Talk Back! forum...)

Has anyone heard whether or not The Bang Music Festival (which usually took place in Miami Fl) is happening this year?

The website still says it is, but I was wondering if anyone had heard any confirmation.

It was single day festival in 2005, and 2006, and the lineup was pretty big in 06. Daft Punk, Duran Duran, Tiesto, Gnarls Barkley, Modest Mouse, and many others.

It was planned to be turned into a two day festival in 07, and it was announced that Smashing Pumpkins and Kanye would be headlining, but then it was randomly canceled for some reason.

    heres the website...

    http://bangmusicfestival.com/

Which still says the festival is happening, but It still doesn't look at that convincing to me.

    thoughts?
  • Alex Young · 1 year ago
    Hey James,

I actually researched into Bang! over the weekend. Haven't found anything, but then again it looks like it will take place sometime in November so we are a long ways away.

    Subpop's 20th Anniversary Festival

    * The festival will officially take place July 12 & 13 at the 640-acre Marymoor Park in Redmond, with performances going both day and night
    * Bands performing will cover the history of the label’s roster, including two reunion performances. One will be the much-ballyhooed return of Green River. The second, according to this recent news story from the Denver Post, will be the Fluid, Sub Pop’s first non-local signing from way back in 1985.
    * There will likely be a Sub Pop comedy night at a yet-to-be-named venue separate from the music festivities.
    * There could possibly also be some shows at clubs around Seattle leading up to the festivities, though details on this were very vague.

Pretty fucking lame that Lollapalooza drops literally the greatest concert ever after I bought a ticket to APW, which is going to be a dry concert apparently.

Ax if you publish this on the first page of CoS, could you mention my name :p
  • Captain Asshole · 1 year ago
Who gives a conniving cunt about a fucking festival in Belgium anyways? Although the lineup looks good and all, does anyone really give a devastating dickrash? Certainly not the Asshole, that's for sure...

Can we drink at All Points West by the way, and are more bands going to be added?
  • Mr. Brightside · 1 year ago
Hey ahole, Just Craigslist or eBay your APW tick and go to Lollapalooza. Last year I decided to move my Saturday VirginFest ticket through CL and ended up buying a 2 day ticket a couple hours later. Noone is stuck with a ticket anymore in the information age. Lolla looks f-ing awesome. Love and Rockets should be interesting. Hopefully some of that spills into the Virginfest in Bmore which right now looks underwhelming.

Alex, might wanna look into this awesome philly festival:
2008 Paul Green School of Rock Festival Fact Sheet

    Overview:

The Paul Green School of Rock-the original performance-based after-school rock music program in the country-will kick off the biggest event of the year with its second annual music festival. The Paul Green School of Rock Music Festival (SORFest), is set for June 27-29 in the city of brotherly love and rock and roll hot spot, Philadelphia, PA.

SORFest features three days of the best rock music including performances by Devo, The Hold Steady, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Dropkick Murphys, and the School of Rock All Stars, among others. It is the latest opportunity for the students of the School of Rock to hone their performance skills and learn from the masters.

"Having our own festival allows us to bring in main stage national acts to inspire our students, get the kids from our schools around the country up on the side stages to play the greatest music ever made and provide slots for original bands comprised of our students and staff, as well as up-and-coming bands we want to support," says Paul Green.

    Details:

    · The Paul Green School of Rock's second annual Festival will kick off Friday, June 27th through Sunday, June 29th at the Festival Pier at Penn's Landing and the Electric Factory in Philadelphia, PA

    · Paul Green School of Rock bands from 30 schools across the country will perform a variety of rock shows over three days

    · Headliners include national touring acts: DEVO, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Drop Kick Murphys and The Hold Steady.

    One additional headliner TBA

    · 600 School of Rock students will converge from across the country to perform on five side stages and one main stage

    · 30,000 spectators are expected in attendance over the course of the weekend

    · Tickets for all 3 shows go on sale Saturday, March 22nd at 10am.

    · Uwishunu.com will host an exclusive pre-sale beginning Wednesday, March 19th at 10am and running thru Friday, March 21st at 10am. In addition uwishunu will host exclusive announcements, and contests, including a "golden ticket' which enters guests into all of the events

Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince / Will Smith Tour Summer 2008!
The first concert details are in!

June 10: Sydney's Hoyts Entertainment Quarter - Sydney, Australia - Hancock Premiere

June 18: Leicester Square - London, UK - Hancock Premiere

June 27: Hyde Park - London, UK - Nelson Mandela's 90th Birthday Celebration

Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince are touring the world in June and July of 2008. Countries they may be visiting may include Australia, India, China, Canada & England.

Will said this at a recent press conference: "We're going to go out big in July," Smith, who gained fame as the "Fresh Prince" with Townes, told reporters in a news conference in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Nov. 30. "We are figuring out some places around the world to do some big shows. It's about to be that circle back to the golden age of hip-hop. There is starting to be a little resurgence, so yeah, we are planning some things. ... It will probably go out with Hancock and do performances with premieres around the world."

He said this in London: MTV News’ Rickie sat down for a chat with the big man before the London premiere of ‘I Am Legend’, he revealed that he hasn’t given up on music:

“I’ll probably just tour with the old material, but I’ll definitely have a concert here in June as that’s when my next film (Hancock) is coming out so I’ll connect the tour to the premieres”

and this: Smith confirmed: "I probably won't create any new music but I will be on tour with my old music, not my old music, sorry - my classic songs - later next year."

Come back here for all the concert details! Also check the forum for the latest.

true that, Oklahoma is also a pretty kickass place to visit. i have seen some awesome shows at their zoo amphitheatre and i would put it in the top 10 amphitheatres around. its a fucking venue in a zoo man, it doesnt get much cooler
  • Captain Asshole · 1 year ago
Whaaaaaaaaaat? Are you kidding me? That Dfest looks like the pussiest thing going right now! All American Rejects? Jesus Christ, those dudes are dick-meltingly gay. Ghostland Observatory, thanks but no thanks. "Dude, Ghostland is soooo original and trippy brooooo" "Fahk off," cried the Captain.

I can't even believe you guys got my so excited to check out who's playing the D-bag fest.

Hey Caotain Asshole, do you know what a "Caotain" actually is? It's someone who farts in their bathtub and then bites the bubbles. Also sometimes referred to as a Fonzanoon. So at least you got that going for you...which is nice.

So why don't you keep jerking off to the shitty emo bands playing Dfest and look at your keyboard when you type you fuckin slimy caotain. That way, when you try to counter-strike the Captain's comments, you won't look like such a flaming idiot.

Ohh yes...finally, I get the privilege of feeling the wrath of the apparently legendary Captain Asshole...I knew it would only be a matter of time...

Truthfully, I'm not trying promote any festivals...shitty or not...I figured if this site was to be collection of summer festivals, I would provide any that were missing. Though I'm not personally a fan of the bands at Purple Door, never been to the festival, nor relate to the christian scene whatsoever, perhaps there are readers of this site that are...

...and last time I checked, this site wasn't called Captain Asshole's Festival Outlook, so chill out on your idiotic comments about every festival you don't have the privilege of attending...you clearly are just looking for attention, and this will be the only time i entertain your desperate need...by the way, have fun at your lame APW...I won't be seeing you at Lolla thankfully
  • Captain Terry · 1 year ago
Terry, touche my friend, I'm glad you could get that off your chest. I feel privileged that you are referring to me as a legend, when in fact I am merely an average male who takes time out of his normal work day of marketing for an IT company to shake up the message boards on this crazy roller coaster we call...the internet. I'm what we like to call a "Message-Board Mercenary." Somewhat of a "Blog Bandito" if you will.

As for looking for attention, well, you bet your shitty-festival-liking ass that I'm looking for attention! Why else would I be doing this? I'm entertaining myself, and hopefully, entertaining others. What would the Real World be without Puck?! Nothing, right? Completely lame and not entertaining. Well I'm the Puck of this Message Board, a'iight?

And you're correct, this site isn't called, Captain Asshole’s Festival Outlook. However, as I said before, I do marketing for an IT company and for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) purposes this site probably should be called Captain Asshole’s Festival Outlook. It would garner much more attention when people search for "festival" in Google. If you had the option, what would you rather click on: "Festival Outlook" or "Captain Asshole’s Festival Outlook?" I'd say rhe latter.

By the way Terry, I will have fun at lame-ass APW. I'll be tripping my fuckin ass off listening to 2-nights of Radiohead. I cut out the fat my friend, I don't need to see a million other bands put on a 45 minute show that promotes their shitty new album. Nope, I see complete sets by outstanding bands like Kings of Leon, Go Team, Animal Collective and the aforementioned Radiohead...twiiiiiiice.

So yeah, I'm pretty amped that I don't have to see your sweaty ass at Lollapalooza either. I hope it rains in Chi-town that weekend. In the meantime, I'll be in NYC, throwing caution to the wind while hitting on some hotties from the city as I pound beer (the beer permits were approved), chow some boomers and drop ecstasy to the sweet sounds of Radiohead...2 Nights in a row.

Bottom line Terry, go fuck yourself.
  • Terry · 1 year ago
Ohh, I just can't help not responding...

Captain Gayhole....I seem to remember you cumming over Lollapalooza's lineup...

"Pretty fucking lame that Lollapalooza drops literally the greatest concert ever after I bought a ticket to APW" I believe was your statement and I remember feeling the slightest bit of pity for you.

But, anyways, have fun on your bad trip recalling how jealous you are that you're not me. Truthfully, I'm pretty disappointed that the worst you can come up with is to wish for rain while I'm at Lolla. I expected something much more vile and biting from you.

And while yes, we can agree those few bands you will see are pretty damn good, they are also practically the only four bands worth seeing...Two of which will be at Lolla. $65 per good band just doesn't add up when you can pay less than $10 per good band at Lolla. Suck on them apples. Though if you want to make APW more worth it, don't miss Girl Talk, whom, guess what, is also at Lolla. Man, I'm telling you, the Lolla line-up is pretty sweet.

As for Radiohead, with Lolla, I'll have seen them three times this summer, since you seem to want to make this about who is more hip or musically cultured. So I couldn't care less that you get to see them two nights in a row.

And ohh yes...all of your loyal fans commend you on making the internet a better place one flaming post at a time.
  • Captain Asshole · 1 year ago
Terry Terry Terry, by no means am I trying to come off more musically inclined than the next guy by saying I'm seeing Radiohead 2 nights in a row. What I'm getting at with that is I would pay $80 per ticket to strictly just see those guys alone. And 2 nights, with 2 FULL sets, I'm going to certainly get my money's worth. Throw some mushrooms in there and you're unstoppable.

Although Lolla certainly does have a dick-meltingly amazing lineup, I'm content with APW. There are hotter chicks in NYC and better drugs. Hot Chicks + Drugs = Sexual Enlightenment. Also, the scenary and the view of NYC is well worth it. Are you saying you don't like the view of NYC? What are you a terrorist? Guys...Terry's a terrorist. (Sick band name by the way, I call it!) Also, way to quote me word-for-word Rain Man. And I saw Girl Talk before (totally 2006 by the way)...he was alright, nothing special...

I apologize that I didn't come back firing with anything harsher than I hope it rains at Lollapalooza. Sorry that I don't actually want you to die or anything. If you want, I can make fun of how shitty the name Terry is. Is that something that would pump your gnads?

But seriously, c'mon Ter, lighten up, this is all in good fun. Just a little jabbing at each other to get the blood flowing -- makes you feel aliiiiive, doesn't it? I'm glad you're spicing this board up a bit, it's always fun anonymously shitting on people.

Overall, I hope it really does rain at Lollapalooza -- I can't let my guard down. And you really need to stop making me click my mouse and freeze up my computer to see an awful festival that might actually get me excited.

    HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND EVERYONE!
  • Terry · 1 year ago
    Captain,

Ohh believe me, I've been having a blast today and I appreciate you making my friday fly by. I have no true hard feelings towards you besides my already substantial hatred for you.

I agree with you that your formula would be a pretty optimal experience regardless of the line-up or occasion, so there's certainly one thing you'll likely have on me. I'm sure we'll have nearly equal experiences at our respective festivals and afterwards we'll have to have a verbal duking it out about who's was best.

If you wish to use my name, I'm sure there's little you can say that I've not heard and I can't imagine it'd bother me much anyways. I pretty much hate my name. But if you think you can surprise me with something, it'll give you something to work on over the weekend/Monday. Though I pity any child who's parents named them Captain Asshole.

You have a good weekend, Cap'n

  • Captain Asshole · 1 year ago
Oh should we Anonymous? I know, that would be much more feasible for us to converse and argue, wouldn't it? You should rot in hell you fuckin puss.

But before you rot in hell, you should Anonymously get a room for yourself and if you're of the male species, you should cut your balls of with a rusty spork. But if you're a female, maybe you should just take a dirty steak knife, and stick it blade up the vaginal cavity. That would be sick actually. Remember though, you want to remain Anonmymous when you're performing these actions.

Whatever option you choose, you won't be able to reproduce anymore Anonymous shitheads like yourself.

    Check their official website.

As for post above^^^ SWEETNESS Outside Lands will be coming back! I was worried it wouldn't it make it cause I seemed like the only person, (and by person I mean obsessive festival goer), who had the freakin time of his life that weekend. I will be booking my hotel as soon as possible. Here's to hoping for Neil Young or Phish.

i have a feeling vfest toronto will be headlined (on one night) by the kings of leon. i am praying that it doesn't happen, but if it does i really hope it's the sunday night so i can go home early. they really are a shitty and boring band.
  • Paul · 9 months ago
I agree about Kings Of Leon at Toronto VFest. What a letdown that would be. And VFest Toronto is all about letdowns.
  • Adam · 9 months ago
I dont think KOL are big enough to headline, unless they decide to have a less top-heavy fest than last year, which would be awesome, becuase the undercard in 08 was really weak compared to previous years, and the headliners werent even that great (not to say that they werent really big).
  • debaser · 9 months ago
oasis headlined and play to the same sized venues as kings of leon are now playing in north america. i still don't get the mass appeal of kol but they have become a arena band here.

last year was top heavy for headliners but the rest of the bill was a bit scattered and spiritualized on the side stage was just wrong. paul weller was a poor choice for coheadlnier too, he is the mod godfather but is pretty much unknown over here. i would have rather seen moby play a proper set at that time rather than dj in a tent that no one could get into.

i hope they go for more mid sized acts this year as they did the previous years. i'd love to have the flaming lips come back to make up for the 06 issue with curfew and massive attack would have been fantastic on the island.
  • Adam · 9 months ago
The Killers were playing the same sized venues in 07 but were only a sub. You need acts to headline that have a fanbase dedicated enough to come from far away and stay the whole 2 days. You also need an act that the average festival goer will be content seeing. KOL do not fit both these criteria, Oasis do.

And yeah, Spiritualized on the side stage mid-afternoon while MGMT played the main was fucked up, Paul Weller was a terrible choice for sub (but gave me a chance to see the pigeon detectives), and Moby doing a DJ set in that tiny 19+ dance tent was yet another poor decision made by the orgainzers.

06 and 07 had incredible lineups, 08 was kind of shitty, more mid sized acts would be great. And if they need to save a bit on headliners and book KOL for one night to get those mid sized acts, I am perfectly okay with that.
  • Paul · 9 months ago
Debaser is right, KOL are an arena band now. They are co-headlining Sasquatch, and will be near the top of Lollapalooza as well, so they make sense for VFest Toronto. I wonder if Blur are another possibility to headline?

Last year the initial line-up was promising, and then each addition was pretty terrible. I still can't believe that the promoters did nothing to make up for the '06 Flaming Lips fiasco.

Has anyone heard anything about a Broken Social Scene Olympic Island show or the Rogers Picnic yet?
  • Paul · 9 months ago
True about The Killers, but they were billed ahead of Bjork and she closed out the first night that year.
  • Adam · 9 months ago
No, Bjork was billed ahead of the killers in 07, and like i said before, an arena sized band is not necessarily a festival headliner. And lollapalooza has several bands ahead of KOL, they would headline the smaller main stage, making them not the main headliner for the night. And Sasquatch also has ben harper headlining.

And no, no word on BSS Olymic Island stuff or Rogers Picnic.
  • debaser · 9 months ago
no word on the olympic island or rogers festivals so far.

i'd love to see blur on vfest this year too, i wonder if they'll come over to north america with the reunion?

i missed both mgmt and spiritualized at last years vfest...i was stuck in line, thanks to my friends being late. it took forever to get into the dock area and the line snaked almost all the way to jarvis street.
  • Paul · 9 months ago
I'm sure I remember the posters for that show went Pumpkins, Killers, Bjork in that order for the headliners.

Who would you pick as headliners Adam?
  • Adam · 9 months ago
    http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/2171889/Vir...

Bjork is first. Bjork is also first on my 07 shirt.

I could see the Besatie Boys playing, or possibly The Cure (weve shared headliners with Coachella before). I could also see Depeche Mode playing.

What about you? (other than KOL)
  • debaser · 9 months ago
adam, i want the cure and depeche mode too and throw in the pixies and jesus and mary chain and it'll be like a wet dream for me! :)
  • Paul · 9 months ago
Okay, you proved me wrong...but I'm thinking of the banners that were all over downtown - I still think those had the Killers below the Pumpkins, and I remember being super annoyed by it.

I was also thinking of The Beastie Boys and The Cure. Depeche Mode I doubt since they are in Toronto on 7/24. Other than those two and Blur, I was thinking of The Verve, Chemical Brothers, Franz Ferdinand and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but they would all be subs as well. I would love to see Portishead there.
  • Adam · 9 months ago
Haha, that would be amazing. Mabye both of those is a little much, but I could see one of them playing with a more mainstream (but not KOL mainstream) act.

Also, whats with everyone complaining about the lines for the ferries? I went in 07 and 08 all days and never waited more than 15 mins for a ferry (I usually arrived around 2:30).
  • Paul · 9 months ago
Jesus & Mary Chain and Pixies would both be great Debaser. You know the actual lineup will not be that good. The are taking less risks each year.
  • Paul · 9 months ago
Same here, I think if you arrive a bit early the lines aren't an issue. I waited longer for the Broken Social Scene shows than I ever did for V Fest.
  • Adam · 9 months ago
Paul- True about Depeche Mode, that sucks.

I think Franz Ferdinand are pretty likely, and Thee Verve and YYY's are definately possibilities, but Portishead are too good for VFest Toronto, and they dont seem to book electronic acts that arent in that piece of shit dance tent, which is too small for the Chemical Brothers, so sadly, its prolly not going to happen.
  • debaser · 9 months ago
i never had any issues getting over the first two years, just last year. :(

i think we could see any of the following:
blur, yeah yeah yeahs, sonic youth, placebo, the cure, beasties, kings of leon, franz ferdinand, dinosaur jr., peaches, morrissey (even though he hates candada)...

i am not sure about other canadian acts though....maybe the arcade fire?
  • Paul · 9 months ago
Ha ha, piece of shit dance tent...so true! The closest I went to that was to the nearby porta-potties.
  • debaser · 9 months ago
the chemical brothers would be a great headliner on the mainstage and they haven't played toronto since 03 or 04 when they played the hershey centre.
  • Paul · 9 months ago
Arcade Fire would be great, but like Portishead, I don't see that happening. Maybe The New Pornographers or Chromeo for some Canadian content.
  • Adam · 9 months ago
I would die of happiness if Arcade Fire or The Chemical Bros played. But I think AF are recording a new album this year, and Chemical Brothers will never play because they would only be allowed to play the dance tent, and they have too much self respect to play in that thing. I could definitely see New Pornos or Chromeo if they decide to book good bands again. I could see alot of the bands debaser listed too, except for Morrisey, who wont play Canada because a few assholes kill a few baby seals.
  • Anonymous · 9 months ago
mmmm, i've heard from someone "in the industry" that vfest is being announced on monday.

Hopefully VFest is happening on the Island again. Wasn't there talk of no more shows there?
  • debaser · 9 months ago
the island residents don't like the festivals on the island but the also complain about the airport and the noise from the docks and the waterfront.

they have to realize that the parks are public areas and are used by the city.

also, it's no different than living downtown. we get noise from all the parades and events all year. jeez, the st. paddy's day drunks are loud enough at 2am....but that's city life. the island is part of the city and not some wilderness adventure.
  • Paul · 9 months ago
Agreed Debaser. I just hope this fest doesn't end up at Downsview Park!
  • debaser · 9 months ago

Agreed. I was at Downsview for Edgefest last year (wich was a terrible concert anyways), and its a terrible place for a concert. Also very inconveniet to get to.

just the have the cure and my bloddy valentine on the same bill is pure bliss.

too bad the chemical brothers are only doing a dj set though.
  • Paul · 9 months ago
Me too, I would love to head out to Coachella and forget about VFest. Maybe someday!
  • Adam · 9 months ago
Debaser, where did you hear that the line up is in the works? I really hope it isn't cancelled. I had a really great time the last two years, and its the only major festival I can afford to go to right now.
  • Adam · 9 months ago
Also, found this V Fest fake on the web.

i'd be really happy with the cure and flaming lips. never been a huge beastie boys fan.

muse are opening for U2 in NYC in september....we need them on vfest again!

    goldenvoice...are you listening???
  • Adam · 9 months ago
I was thinking about that. If VFest was to scale back a bit, Muse would be a really good headliner. They are a big draw, but don't cost as much as Foo Fighters or Smashing Pumpkins. Now with them being in the area in September they are a definate possibilty.
  • debaser · 9 months ago
and unlike the smashing pumpkins....they are good live!!!
  • Adam · 9 months ago
    that too.

I hope the lineup is out next monday. If its not, I would bet that VFest has been canclled.
  • Paul · 9 months ago
Hmm, I'm not sure about Muse as a headliner. As great as they are live, I just don't see them as a headliner yet.

I wish they would say something, even just update the website with "2009 info coming soon"...even though it only appears to be 3-4 of us that are anxiously awaiting info.
  • debaser · 9 months ago
i have faith that there is something in the works. there are tons of bands touring around that time and i can't see them giving up on it considering the turnout keeps growing.
  • debaser · 9 months ago
muse got 9000 people to head to arrow hall a few years back. they could headline if bjork could as that's what she pulled in when she played the island on her own.
  • Adam · 9 months ago
Muse could headline without a doubt. Also, I think around 40000 people showed up last year, same as the year before. They were hoping for 45-50000.
  • Paul · 9 months ago
Whether Muse can headline or not, I hope they don't start repeating bands that have already played this quickly.
  • Adam · 9 months ago
I wouldn't mind Muse playing again, they weren't nearly as popular back then as they are now. Having an act repeat this soon I think is okay if they have recently had a large boost in popularity.
  • Adam · 9 months ago
Also, Snow Patrol is opening for U2's Toronto show, meaning that there would be no radius issues for Muse.

I too am anxiously anticipating any news about Toronto VFest, and am obviously hoping for the best. I've been every year, and despite the boring Toronto crowds, overpriced everything and all of Oasis not getting their asses kicked, we should still have high hopes.

Osheaga was a blast last year, with Chromeo's homecoming definitely the highlight. With their new four-day format they could end up siphoning much of VFest's thunder; festival referendum?

I have lost faith that VFest Toronto is happening.
  • Anonymous · 9 months ago
Well, I sent a couple e-mails and got some good and bad news. Bad news is that the Bacardi B-Live (VFest dance tent people) said they will not be returning to Toronto, which probably means V-Fest is cancelled (however the way he phrased it gives me a little bit of hope that it is still on). Good news is that Rogers Picnic will happen this year on July 19.
  • Adam · 9 months ago
By the way the above post was me
  • debaser · 9 months ago
it looks like b-live are doing their own events: http://www.foxbusiness.com/story/bacardi-b-live...
  • Paul · 9 months ago
Thanks for the update Adam. Great news about Rogers Picnic...despite the bad weather (and headliner) last year, that was a really great line-up and a fun show.
  • debaser · 9 months ago
i don't think not having b-live there will make or break vfest. the dance tent was tiny and while was busy it probably wasn't a huge draw ticket sales wise.

over the three years, vfest toronto did very well and continued to grow.

the australian versions were held the past weekend and they got record turnout and had the killer/elbow/snow patrol/duffy/human league.

i can't see them wanting to give up on it just yet.
  • Paul · 9 months ago
I hope not, but some news would be nice.
  • Adam · 9 months ago
I would personally be very happy if B-Live did not return. Also, like I said, the way he phrased it (B-Live will not be at Virgin Festival this upcoming September) gives me hope that VFest is still on.
  • Paul · 9 months ago
Adam for Rogers Picnic, did you just get a date, or is there any indication of when that line-up would be announced?
  • Adam · 9 months ago
All I got was a date. Last year we didn't get anything until almost mid-April though, so I'm not surprised.
  • Adam · 9 months ago
Apparently Osheaga will release its lineup tomorrow or Wednesday.
  • Anonymous · 9 months ago
Look for a new venue for Virgin Festival in Toronto and probably a new date.
  • Paul · 9 months ago
Great, our fears of Downsview Park will likely come true.
  • Adam · 9 months ago
I'm not that surprised. Toronto Island residents and lakeshore condo owners always hated the festival. They were bound to get their way eventually. I just really hope they don't put it in Downsview. Mabye find a field somewhere north of Toronto, make it a more European style fest? Probably never going to happen, but it would be nice.
  • debaser · 9 months ago
i doubt the lakeshore condos could hear the festival as most wouldn't want their windows open due to the gardener expressway and island airport noise. and it's not like vfest is the only festival on the island. there is caribanna, wakestock and several others.
sad thing, all these festivals bring money to the city and the island and is great for tourism.
  • debaser · 9 months ago
osheaga is apparently "presented" by virgin mobile this year?

i wonder if the toronto vfest show will be the same weekend and share a bill? it would be much easier logistically.

doesnt' look like virgin are onboard with osheaga after all.

    damn internet rumours. :P
  • Paul · 9 months ago
Osheaga has done a nice job securing some big headliners, but overall this is a pretty weak line-up. I was planning on going but I think I'll skip this one. Unless VFest Torontro announces something soon, I think I may spend my festival budget on a trip to Chicago for Pitchfork.
  • debaser · 9 months ago
i agree paul, the osheaga line up is kinda weak but i'm sure they'll add more bands.

let's hope we hear something about vfest soon cos' i want to KNOW!!! it's very weird that there has been no updates or info released.
  • Adam · 9 months ago
If they add a few more good bands I might just try and make the trip to Osheaga.
  • debaser · 9 months ago
i'd ratehr make the trek to all points than osheaga as the bill is much stronger.
  • Adam · 9 months ago
yeah but I dont think I can afford a trip to NY right now.
  • Anonymous · 9 months ago
I don't know if you wanna add it, but here's another small festival in PA, Potluck Festival.

Will the Virgin Mobile Festival return this year?

It's a good question. And as of right now, I don't know the answer.

In fact, the future of Pimlico and the Preakness is up in the air.

Yesterday, I e-mailed Virgin Mobile Festival publicist Audrey Fix Schaefer, who said there is "no news to report."

That doesn't bode well for the festival ...

By now, pretty much all of the other major summer music festivals have announced their lineups. Even the roster for the V Festival in England has gone public, and tickets are on sale.

But Virgin Mobile Festival promoter Seth Hurwitz has kept mum about the future of the annual Baltimore event. And I can't say I blame him. Who books a festival at a venue that could be torn down in six months?

If it were to happen, this would be the Virgin Mobile Festival's fourth year at Pimlico. And though attendance has slumped the past couple of years, Hurwitz has been happy with the festival.

Still, the longer we wait for an announcement, the less likely the festival will come back to Baltimore.
  • debaser · 9 months ago
what sucks the most about not knowing is that i'd like to be planning a trip to another festival this summer if vfest isn't happening.

i'm sure there are many others in the same boat as well who would like to plan ahead, especially since the dates and line ups have already been announced for the majority of the major festivals.
